The basic rule to keep in mind is that under-inflated tires provide more support and grip, but fully inflated tires allow for more maneuverability and speed. When riding on especially mongoose fat bike soft conditions with 5-inch tires, decreasing the pressure as low as 2 PSI will allow more of the tread to flatten across the ground, providing greater traction. If the ground is rougher and firmer, inflating closer to the high end of the specific tire’s maximum will give you better handling at high speed.
