The Day One — its inaugural bike from 2001 — is still going strong as a low maintenance singlespeed with disc brakes and mounts for mudguards. Nowadays mountain bikes tend to be flatter and wider, however the Incline offers a more standard handlebar more like my hybrid bikes. Some bikes (such as the Fugio) are more oriented towards the rough stuff, whereas others (such as the Croix de Fer) are better suited to carrying loads.
It’s hard to get passed the point that this bike has disc brakes on the front, and rim brakes on the front. While it is completely usable, it is just strange, and doesn’t look right. That’s not to say the Genesis 26″ V2100 Mountain Bike doesn’t have its work cut out for it. It is one of the few low-cost full-suspension trail bicycles with a 3×7 drivetrain that has a wider range of speed options. Some may find the 3× drivetrain more complicated to shift, but it’s a better learning curve for newbies.
Genesis supply the 27.2mm seat post, 75mm stem and 685mm medium rise bars, the Flux saddle is practical but may not suit everyone. A combination of clean lines and an eye pleasing Cyan Blue paint job make the Core a very pretty bike and at a price that is pretty attractive too. The Carrera Detonate Full Suspension Mens Mountain Bike is a little more expensive than the Genesis 26″ V2100 Mountain Bike, but it also has longer fork travel. Secondly, I needed more torque for this bike and I should have swapped the front cassette for a bigger one on the climb. Summing up this failure, I pushed the bike up again, straddled it, and challenged this uphill with eve’s cheering. I did about 10 minutes of grinding with the bike on relatively flat grass, having my partner Eve on hand to keep track of me.
