It is made with a steel construction frame and polyester material for the canopy, which is in line with just about every shade tent on the market today. The weight of this Ozark Trail is lighter than most of the same size alternative steel frame canopy tents, coming in right about 29 lbs. An argument can be made as to whether this is good or bad. From a positive perspective, the lightweight design increases portability which is certainly important in carrying the tent to its intended location.
We are even printing a few extra of these to have around and keep in the canopy bag for future mishaps. The feet areas of the legs are also something to mention, as they are shaped like pads instead of a simple ozark trail backpack pole. This adds to the stability as the weight is more evenly spread. It would probably only protect against light rainfall as the materials aren’t specifically made for moderate or heavy moisture levels.
I have the 9×9 First Up dome tent tan with brown and blue trim. The reason why I gave it 4 and not 5 is it says 4-5 people but really is best for just 2 and perhaps an infant. Also the sides of the tent are netted ozark trail backpack mesh so it get a bit nippy in the tent at night wish they had made a closing window for those. Now I have a functioning canopy and all it really took is about 5 hours of time including the print time.
The legs are locked into place with old school metal push button locks, something you won’t see on many modern pop up tents now-a-days. These push locks get very difficult to use over time, especially if the tent is used on the beach and exposed to sand and saltwater, causing rust build up. Many newer tent brands like EZ-Up use revolutionary thumb lock sliders or larger easy to release buttons, which are a much better user experience when setting the canopy up or taking it down. With the push buttons you need to worry about pinching fingers or not being able to release the button when it gets rusted, which is never a pleasant experience. The legs extend to give the top peak a height of about 8’10” which will be plenty of headroom for anyone underneath. The Ozark Trail canopy very well might be one of the best selling 10×10 tent brands of all time.
It’s not super heavy because of the soft top, and that also seems to be a main reason for why its price is so reasonable. Based on the high brand reputation and the overall quality of materials, this looks like a trustworthy choice. With the massive influx of instant canopies taking over the market, it can be hard to find one that lives up to its claims.
We think you should use a waterproof spray, that you can find at many retailers, just to be safe. The first is to generate an element of airflow when you’re standing underneath. Yes, it is a completely exposed structure with open walls, but when the hot rays of the sun are beating down, it makes things more comfortable when you have a concentrated breeze flowing through.
