Mountain and Road Bikes

While aesthetically, the quality of the bike was fantastic, I did run into quality issues. The front shock squeaked when I went over bumps, and the front derailleur wouldn’t shift through all of the gears. The Genesis Incline is the bike I have the most experience with between the two bicycles, as I ended up with the Schwinn around the time the snow began to fly, and the cold moved in. It had many of the similar specifications, such as 29″ wheels, however was definitely not quite the quality I was looking for. However it was getting late in the year, so I wanted to bike before the snow came, so I bought it. Mongoose’s bike selection has evolved from its BMX-focused roots.

Both share the same 1460g carbon Mantle frame that you can get alone for £1500. The 30T carbon frame gets full internal routing, Di2 internal battery clamp, a tapered headtube, PressFit BB, 31.6 seatpost, and Boost spacing. The complete bikes get built with 29er wheels, but the frame can also handle up to a 27.5 x 2.8″ tire, even with a front derailleur.

Some people think there is more suspension, and there is some redundancy, but when riding with more suspension can be better damping. Riding exercise, not to hurt the body, but to better health and fitness. Only available as a £2000 frameset, paired to a suspension genesis bicycles corrected 27.5+ tapered full carbon fork, the Tarn Tanium should be a fun bike to build up with either 29″ or 27.5″ wheels. Run it 1x or with a front derailleur, the Boost bike is ready for dropper posts or comes with a shim for a more comfy 27.2mm post.

It is the combination of a vast array of mounts, a robust steel frame and wide tyre clearances that allow this bike to be such a jack of all trades. A rim brake version is available in addition to the disc option and both come with Shimano Ultegra 2×11 groupsets. The maximum tyre size on bike is 28c, typical for rim brake set ups but relatively narrow for a bike with discs.

It can be rated as one of the cheapest mountain bikes with good value for money. The Tour de Fer is a steel touring-specific bike with a longer, stable wheelbase, and comes complete with mudguards and racks. Moving into the racier end of the spectrum, the Zero and Zero Disc are full-carbon road bikes with aggressive geometry. As the price increases, so does the level of tech, with Di2 included in the top-end model. Genesis produces bikes for all cycling disciplines, including road, mountain, cyclocross, gravel/adventure and commuting.

This bike is designed for lightweight bike-packing, able to tackle ultra-distances on mixed terrain. Just because a bike is designed for one specific purpose doesn’t mean it is limited to that purpose. Adventure bikes are very versatile and can be put to a multitude of uses. If you want more control over exactly what components your bikes is built with, both of these are available to buy as just the frameset. This is a bike that will zip around town without a second thought. The Venerable Croix de Fer frameset has been a mainstay of the Genesis range since 2009. The frameset is incredible versatile and lends itself to a multitude of different builds.

At a sniff the wrong side of two grand, it’s still great value and it’s a bike that brings massive potential for exploration and future fun-filled riding. The fork is made from chromoly steel and has a straight 1 1/8in steerer, and both the frame and fork genesis bicycles have quick-release dropouts rather than thru-axles. If you’re a petite woman, the Liv Tempt 4 would be an affordable option. If you prefer a wider range of speed options the Genesis 26″ V2100 Mountain Bike might be an entry-level bike worth trying.
