Downsides include complexity, lack of repairability, and adequate braking at best if you have hills. The braking feel is also very springy – there’s no real feedback in the lever, just an increasing force that goes all the way to the bars, and increases braking effort. I had already decided I wanted one, so I said I would take the gray one. There is a HUGE market gap right now, for quality ebikes that are priced between $1000 and $1500, and deliver the value needed for a would be e-bike candidate rider. Certain functionality has to be there, to get these ebikes more past the early adopter, or even past the early mainstream type of buyer. Those market ‘chasm’s’ have yet to be jumped here in the US, where bikes aren’t seen as transportation or for commuting practicality as they might be in Europe or Asia. I think the battery built into the bottom tube looks cool. Most ebikes just have a big battery hanging off the bottom tube. It’s still lower than many mountain bikes making it easier to get on and off, especially on awkward spots on the trail. The middle power/enter button turns the bike on while holding it.

Neither one wants anything to do with this bike anymore, and they won’t help you a single bit. The front fork is an adequate SR Suntour Nex 4610 with adjustable preload and suspension lockout. Why you need suspension lockout on this bike is actually quite beyond me.

Schwinn are now in their second generation of ebikes with the Marshall, Coston CE and DX. The Marshall schwinn electric bike is a bit more sporty for off-road and on. The Coston CE and DX are more at home on the pavement.

I confess I have never heard of most of the companies selling e-bikes these days. There was a certain comfort level right from the start about dealing with a brand I knew and trusted. The 250 watt motor could be bigger for this bike to use the throttle regularly and give a better boost on hills. That being said, the small-ish 250W motor isn’t going to be a powerhouse on hills. The bike accelerates fine on flat ground, but you’ll definitely need to add some leg assist if you’re going to be climbing tall hills.
