If you want a solid camping chair, the GCI Freestyle Rocker, which has an aluminum frame, makes an excellent option. The spring-loaded shocks allow for smooth rocking when you want, ozark trail canopy but it also sits stationary for those times when you’re eating one of the best camping meals around the fire. But this chair isn’t just convenient, it’s also super comfortable.
The chair also has the round mesh cupholder found on most chairs of this type. Of the big man chairs, this one actually supports your weight. The padding on the arms is poor, and the cup holder is in an inconvenient spot. Being two completely different body types, 6’5” versus 5’5”, we have equally different taste in chairs. Dave prefers the OZ Tent King Kokoda chair because of its sturdy nature that has supported a sizeable frame for going on nine-years. The chair’s arm rests are at the appropriate height for a tall man, plus it has adjustable lumbar support for the princesses of the group.
Out of all the chairs I tested, the Cabela’s Big Outdoorsman proved best for long sits. The padded cushion and back made it super comfortable while I spent a workday in it, and it made it hard to resist a nap after lunch. While the other chairs were plenty comfortable for shorter amounts of time, they didn’t provide as much comfort as the Big Outdoorsman.
It has the highest weight capacity and largest seat of any chair we tested. Out of all the chairs we tested, this chair’s capacity—800 pounds—is the highest (the next-highest is the Yeti Trailhead’s 500-pound weight limit). No other chair in our testing pool—except perhaps the extremely pricey Yeti Trailhead—came close to matching the King Kong’s build quality. Its steel frame doesn’t wobble when you get in or out. Of the chairs we tested, the Coleman chair was the only one that came with a built-in cooler bag, which can hold four standard-size beer or soda cans.
The seatback has some slightly padded sections that do at least a little something to enhance comfort, and the armrests are nominally padded, too. But this isn’t the kind of chair you’re going to want to spend most of the day in. At under 3 lbs, this is one of the lightest folding chairs on the market.
The original obelisk was buried in the 1940s, then later exhumed and placed on an area ranch in the 1970s. In 1997, local residents paid for the replica to be constructed in a courtyard near the water tower. The Stratford obelisk stands 22 feet tall and has a plaque on it giving the history of the Ozark Trail.
Our editors are experienced outdoorsmen and women, and most importantly, we’re trained journalists. We prioritize field testing and objective data when reviewing products. We conduct interviews with gear manufacturers and engineers as well as outdoor experts so that our readers have an understanding of how and why a product works—or doesn’t. Round out your Ozark Trail tour in Stratford where you can spot a replica of an obelisk that once stood in town. The original obelisk, created by the Ozark Trails Association in 1921, stood at the intersection of Main Street and Hyden – approximately one block east of the current obelisk’s position.
