As the 80s rolled around, cruiser bikes were considered collectors’ items. Old Schwinn cruisers were sought after to be restored to their original condition. With the help of the 1985 Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure film, the interest in cruiser bikes continued to grow. The name “Schwinn” in front of the schwinn beach cruiser title “Cruiser” means a solid, comfortable ride on a cantilever frame bike that is always instyle. That’s why the words “Schwinn Cruiser” are something special if you agree that first class on white-walled balloons is theonly way to roll. The “Deluxe’s” Spring Fork gives you an extra smooth ride.
Most e-cruisers are class 1, which means they stop helping you pedal once you reach 20 mph, but some go as high as 28 mph (class 3). With that said, the other thing with Sixthreezero is we really focus on seats and comfort. So I think, personally, you’re gonna find our seats to be more comfortable than Schwinn seats. We use different foams, different sizes, different springs like that, that are gonna make our cruisers way, way more comfortable, especially as you move up in the price range.
Now, with that said, Schwinn also does offer independent bike shop beach cruisers. Now, these are gonna be even more expensive, they’re a little bit more high end. I’d say it might be more money than you need to spend on a beach cruiser, typically for the IBD models, but again, it’s up to you if you like that name, or if the bike speaks to you. I would say generally speaking on their cruisers, there’s no competitive advantage for their higher end models.
The Varsity was offered between 1960 and 1962 as an 8 speed and as a 10 speed between 1963 and 1982. The rise and fall of the cruiser culminated in the 1960s with the introduction of ten speed bicycles and another style known today as BMX. The days of schwinn ebike the “beach bum bicycle” were upon us and yard sales were a hot spot for finding a good bargain bike. With a stylish look and functional features like a battery-powered headlight and “tank,” today’s Schwinn models still incorporate a similar design.
Moderately grippy, 45mm-wide Kenda Koast tires (with coffee-colored sidewalls) on 27.5-inch alloy rims roll fast and eat potholes in your path. The open, alloy pedals aren’t the most barefoot-friendly schwinn dealers compared to rubber-coated pedals, but that’s an easy and inexpensive swap. In the 1970s, cyclists saw a rebirth of the cruiser bike, in the form of makeshift mountain bikes.
For the next few years, the design of the Schwinn beach bike would continue to evolve including the release of the 1940s Lady Excelsior. Schwinn’s World B10E Motorbike was officially born in 1933. In an effort to create a more durable bicycle, Frank W. Schwinn utilized wide “balloon” tires and a “cantilevered” frame that incorporated two top tubes. The start of something great, this original cruiser would see many changes throughout history. The Schwinn Men’s Cruiser Bike is built out of a burly steel frame and comes in mutliple sizes to support a vast range of heights.
During this time, competitors also began to appear including Huffy, Shelby, Columbia and Roadmaster. With the introduction of fun features like chrome plating, saddlebags with fringe, and motorcycle styled horn tanks, beach cruiser brands began offering more variety for bike lovers. A classic cruiser with classic lines, the Rover 9 has a light 6061 aluminum frame and steel fork, hydraulic disc brakes, and a 1×9-speed drivetrain controlled by a Microshift trigger shifter.
One of the defining features of city or beach cruiser bikes is their emphasis on comfort. Look for models with wide, cushioned seats, stainless steel spokes in the wheels and high-rise handlebars that promote a comfortable and upright riding position. This ergonomic design reduces strain on your back and shoulders, allowing you to enjoy long rides without discomfort. Adjustable seats and handlebars also ensure a customized fit for riders of all sizes.
