Huffy Bikes: We Make Fun Since 1892

It is great to hear from a fellow Huffy cruiser enthusiast! That’s so great you rode your 2003 FrankenHuffyTrailKroozer across Missouri. I am even familiar with the stretch of the Katy Trail near St. Louis, as I’ve biked and ran on it while visiting my girlfriend out there.

The Huffy had not even arrived at my doorstep before I was planning a grand adventure for it. Colorado Springs seemed a natural destination for it since my friends Lisa and Jeremiah lived down there. I figured, maybe I could combine the ride with a visit to them and maybe join in some sort of late evening cruiser ride that is en vogue in hip cities such as Portland or Fort Collins.

She has been left for days in the rain, sleet and snow in both California and Aspen. She has been vandalized by homeless people and has taken a few spills on late-night rides home from the bars.

Lots of choices for plating and color if you want a little fancy or rust resistance. Now when you say multi-speed with rear derailleur, there’s the kicker. You’ll need a little skinnier to get through the drive-train. From brands you can trust, like Kent, Concord and Huffy, Walmart has cruiser bikes for the whole family. All you need to do is pick out your favorite style and color and get ready to enjoy the ride. Even if it’s been a while since you embraced pedal-powered transportation, remember — it’s just like riding a bike.

I was forced to buy Arianna after a homeless person stole my other Huffy (it’s customary in Santa Monica to blame virtually everything on the homeless). But I went to a few bike shops and all the cruisers cost between $300 and $1,000. Explore the ideal new ride in our range of kids’ bikes, electric bikes, ride-ons, and more!

Aside from trashed tires and one flat tube, it mostly needed just a cleaning to make it presentable. I shelled out for two new, slightly wider tires (no whitewalls), tubes, and handlebar grips, removed the decals, and added a bell and reflectors I already had. The front fork and chainguard were a very dull silver (a.k.a., gray) that detracted from the look of the chrome fenders, so I sprayed on two coats of Rustoleum gloss white. This cruiser bike is made in a vintage style, with a seafoam green color to match. If the bike is single speed or internal hub geared, chains with internal width of 1/8″ / 3.2mm are usually used. This is probably what you need. This turned out to be one of my fondest adventures.

If the bike has a derailleur 3/32″ / 2.4mm chains are used. Derailleur chains are also specific to the number of rear gears. 6, 7 and 8 speed systems use the same chain. I did conclude one more thing from the ride, however. Lance Armstrong would not have beat me to Colorado Springs if he was riding huffy cruiser the Huffster and I was riding one of my other bikes. When I envisioned the ride I also figured I could swap out the pedals for any of the clipless pedals from my other bicycles. This would allow me to pull up and back on the pedals, using the hamstrings, instead of simply stomping down.
