This bike will outlast my son’s use because of it’s strength and componentry. My son was apprehensive to let loose with the rigid platform. He did say that he noticed a difference in the handling with the big tires and it felt kind of like his Kawasaki KLX 110.
The fat tires drew a lot of attention. Very few bike companies build 24-inch fat bikes. I don’t know of many that go smaller from there either. It could be swapped for a shorter stem to add some downhill stability. Really, this frame is most likely a back up bike for a family of enthusiasts that want their child to join the fat biking they do in the winter.
The stock brakes kinda suck too so I was thinking about upgrading to Shimano hydraulic brakes in the future. Kristen (mom), Blair (dad), and Parker (kiddo). We started Rascal Rides when Parker was born and we didn’t want to give up our mongoose fat bike passion for biking. Over the years, we’ve tested hundreds of kids bikes, helmets, bike trailers, and more. In addition, with 24-inch wheels, my son’s bikes are getting big enough that I am able to ride them without damaging anything.
They are not hydraulic and even I could feel that when testing myself. The job is getting done but there is more arm pump and fatigue when wrestling more weight with a lower grade brake system. One of the main components of any bike is the drive train.

This bike comes with the same features as the other Mongoose models, only this one is made for kids (ages six and up) as well as adults. With a steel-frame base and extra wide wheels and tires, this bike’s pretty easy to learn on and can handle multiple terrain types, such as sand and snow. The rigid frame works well for snow and sand riding but loses ability mongoose bicycle in comparison to a suspended mountain bike. The Argus just so happens to be capable enough for trail riding too. Based on how many miles riders get out of this one, it seems to be a very durable pick. It’s made with a steel frame, a four-inch-wide bike-wheel size, aluminum crank arms, and front and back brakes for optimal riding in anything from sand to snow.
