Ozark Trail 65L Hiking Backpack SKU# 1354

I bought this pack recently on a whim while shopping Walmart. I needed a day pack and didn’t really have lots of time to search at REI for the various styles provided having only gone to one store. This daypack ended up being the cheapest after a quick perusal. I was a little concerned with how the straps would distribute weight. Prior to taking it out on the trail, I did give it two coats of silicone spray so that it would shed water.

We couldn’t resist a second look at Missouri’s high point as we neared the trailhead. This is a personal choice because I’d rather have some wetness on my lower body and not be sweating and cold all over. I sweat under the best of rain shells when hiking hard in moderately cold temps. The umbrella gives me a little roof to walk under, but it’s not for everybody.

The Ozark Trail 1-Person Backpacking Tent is on the cheaper end of the spectrum. A variety of websites have it currently priced for less than $50. Many higher quality tents could cost 3 or 4 times that amount. If you’re searching east of the Rockies for stunning scenery, technical terrain, and a long hike option sans the AT crowds, this is your pick.

For me, planning campsites involves guesswork and looking at topographical maps. I cut post-it notes into strips and stick them to the map where I think we might camp. I move them around while planning, sometimes even after ozark trail backpack changes are made while on the trail. I sometimes enjoy not knowing exactly where we’ll stop to spend the night. After walking just over eleven miles, we made camp north of Harper Spring and remnants of an old springhouse.

It was one of those planned events in 2020 that was delayed for years, from what else, but the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the trip was three years in the making, the anticipation was doubly intense. The next section along Trace Creek is an enjoyable, quiet walk in the woods. Camp at Highway DD trailhead near the section’s start or Harper Spring around the 15 mile-mark. I pack needed items in small containers when possible to save weight.
