Scroll through the carousel to learn about the unique features of our e-bikes. But even the mid- to low-end Shimano parts are perfectly fine for this level of bike. The Schwinn EC1 is one of those simple e-bikes that can reliably bring a smile to your face.
I can just lightly spin the pedals to activate the pedal sensor and the motor does all the work for me. There’s nothing overly fancy about it, though I’d say the fact that it comes with built-in fenders and a rear rack is a nice feature. This bike comes equipped with front, rear, and bottom lights. The front and rear lights are attached to the fenders while the bottom lights are part of the battery itself. If it’s a bright night and you just want some visibility, the bottom lights work well. Otherwise, the headlight is adjustable to your preference, and the rear light is built into the fender itself.
The fenders keep you dry while the larger 700c wheels and hybrid tires provide efficiency in coasting. The front suspension fork pairs nicely with the seat post shock and the ergonomic grips, swept back handlebars and adjustable stem keep your hands and arms comfortable. Even though this bike uses a relatively weak motor, it rides well and keeps the overall weight down. It’s also very balanced because the battery pack (while high up) is in the back and the motor is in the front.
It’s just that they’re usually on smaller, lightweight e-bikes that push the needle considerably less on the scale. Front and rear mechanical disc brakes deliver all-weather stopping power and speed control. But of course half the fun of riding a bike is using your own power for propulsion (or at least sharing the load). So I usually found myself keeping it in the second or third pedal assist level out of five total levels. Admit it, there’s something nostalgic about Schwinn bikes — a trusty old Schwinn that reminds you of your childhood. Well, get ready for this, because the Schwinn EC1 electric bicycle gives that same old feel of a classic Schwinn cruiser but adds a nice, firm electric boost to your ride.
I mostly used the motor in pedal-assist mode, though I will cover the throttle in the next section. The motor on this bike is very aggressive in that is starts up quickly with even the slightest movement of the pedal, and it goes hard. When riding with level 5 assistance my pedals were free-spinning most of the time even on the highest gear. As reviewed, the bike didn’t have much in the way of storage, but other models have a rear rack and even storage in the seat. Speaking of the seat, it’s not the most comfortable I’ve ridden on, but that’s easy enough to replace with a third-party seat if you like. The standard batteries that come on our Marshall, Coston CE and Coston DX bikes are good for up to 45 miles of riding.
So, no matter how you like to ride, there’s an e-bike for you. For more information, check out our blog post on e-bike styles. The Schwinn GSE or “GSElectric” is an electric bike that was sold from 2007 to 2009 in a couple of different forms.

In short, think primarily about what you want to do on your e-bike, where you’re most likely to ride it, and how much you want to spend. The bike accelerates fine on flat ground, but you’ll definitely need to add some leg assist if you’re going to be climbing tall hills. The alloy frame features a coil sprung suspension fork to smooth out bumps in the road or trail. Most Schwinn e-bikes include wide tires, which provide extra grip and stability. They also provide a smooth ride for added comfort – a great feature when you can ride farther than ever before.
By the way, it is my understanding that Schwinn has not made bikes for many years but just licenses their name. About ten years ago we sold Currie electric scooters under the schwinn beach cruiser Schwinn name. Your sales taxes will be calculated at check-out and vary per state. Meanwhile it is possible that you don’t see any sales taxes applied to your purchase.
You’ll need to consider the type of terrain and style of riding you prefer, as well as how far you want to ride before recharging the battery. For example the Healy Ridge and Ridgewood e-bikes are great for trails and other off-road rides, whereas the Mendocino is perfect for casual cruising around the neighborhood.
