When I first started riding electric Schwinns, I was largely limited to cruiser e-bikes. But with several new commuter-specific e-bikes like the Schwinn Coston CE that I recently tested, this household bicycle name is making a big move on the wider e-bike market. The pack has a built in handle and LED light readout for a quick estimate of remaining battery capacity. The pack locks to the frame and does require the key to be left in to a second slot in order to be used. This is a definite con as your keys can jingle around when riding making them and the bike frame more vulnerable to damage and scratches. Our e-bikes use lithium-ion batteries for their electrical stability, storage capacity, longevity, and lighter weight. The battery is easy to recharge with a standard household outlet and the included charging cable. 7-speed trigger shifters offer smooth gear changes, mechanical disc brakes deliver all weather stopping power, and the aluminum frame provides lightweight durability.
Lithium polymer battery pack is fast to charge, easily removable and balanced with the front…… A tough, well-balanced, affordably priced, single-speed electric bike from a well established brand, available in three frame sizes for improved fit, sporty forward-leaning geometry. No suspension elements but the fork is steel which provides some vibration dampening properties and…… That is not the case with this e-bike and I think it comes down to a question of power management. Even at level 3 assistance, my pedals are free spinning in 7th gear. The only time you’ll ever need to balance power output would be if you were planning on doing an entire 20 miles without charging.

If you leave the battery in the bike, there is a rubber port cover you need to move before plugging in the bike. This helps keep the battery dry if you get caught out in the rain. The Schwinn Coston CE is very much a commuter electric bike, but it’s not one of those thin-wheeled messenger e-bikes. We will request for an assembly receipt as proof of professional installation. And at the end of the day, we’re talking about an affordable cruiser, so I didn’t expect to find high-end shifters, hydraulic disc brakes, or suspension on the bike.
It has about an inch of travel between off and full, and you can push the throttle part way down or all the way down. Overall, I think Schwinn needs to better balance its approach when it comes to the motor and how hard it pushes, especially when it has a full charge. So, if you commute, or you frequently run errands, an e-bike can save you a lot of gas, and get you outside more. So now that we’ve waxed philosophic about e-bikes, let’s get to the Coston CE. Some thought was put into the idea there and I appreciated it. A 7-speed transmission from Microshift also adds to the commuter street-cred, giving those in hilly areas the ability to run through the gears on hills. It looks just odd enough for drivers to take a second look in a “what the heck is that thing? A second look is invaluable as a rider, where we’d often even be grateful for a first look from drivers.
Nothing feels cheap, plastic-y, or vulnerable to quick failure. You also get two different frame sizes to choose from, which is a big upgrade over the single one-size-fits-all frames that many e-bike companies still offer. 18-speed drivetrain with twist shifter lets you adapt to your terrain, while mechanical disc brakes deliver all weather stopping power.
It’s just that they’re usually on smaller, lightweight e-bikes that push the needle considerably less on the scale. Front and rear mechanical disc brakes deliver all-weather stopping power and speed control. But of course half the fun of riding a bike is using your own power for propulsion (or at least sharing the load). So I usually found myself keeping it schwinn dealers in the second or third pedal assist level out of five total levels. Admit it, there’s something nostalgic about Schwinn bikes — a trusty old Schwinn that reminds you of your childhood.
