The Kent Torpedo is the first electric bicycle that I know of designed specifically for children. And it’s so much fun (even for me as a full-fledged adult) that it surely won’t be the last one. Because its battery is mounted underneath its rear rack, SixThreeZero Around the Block e-cruiser has more of that classic beach cruiser look. The bike comes about 75% pre-assembled, and I only needed to attach the front wheel and fender, handlebars and saddle. Things started off on the wrong foot when I realized some of the seat post assembly pieces were missing.

Using the bikes is really easy and although the surrounding countryside is pretty flat, it is nice to have to electric motor if you fancy taking a breather or on the slight rises. Sissinghurst is a brilliant place to visit – the house, gardens and estate are beautiful and well presented. With the electric bikes, it makes for a really great day trip from London (1hr on the train from Charing Cross and 45mins on the bike to Sissinghurst). Without the battery, the Kent Torpedo is easy enough to pedal, though it will definitely feel a bit heavier than a typical kid’s bike.

SPIN will be hosting tabling events and safety events where students can earn riding credit and helmets. Of course, all the fun is in going fast in high power mode, though that drains the battery quicker. Now before I start getting disgruntled comments, let me start by saying this isn’t a small motorcycle – it’s a pedal-assist e-bike. Speaking of steps, the step-thru frame comes in only one size but should fit most riders five feet and taller.
