How To: Backpack the Ozark Trail

We like that this pack has a lot of pockets including a zipper that allows you to access the middle of the pack without opening the top. Experience the best RV camping in Missouri at Coconuts RV Resort, Big Creek RV Park, and Huzzah Valley Resort. For added convenience, this folding chair has a built-in carrying strap, so no need to keep track of a bag.

Includes compression straps on the sides to keep your gear stable. This pack has a lot of extra storage pockets for organization of your gear. We loaded the bag up with everything we might need for a 10-to-12-hour day out on the trails.

This pouch could also be used to hold a small notebook computer but there’s isn’t any protection. I wrap my bladder with a small bath towel (or you could get an insulated water bladder pouch for it) to keep it cool and my gear dry. I’ve been using this bag for over a year and love it for it size and comfort levels. I like how almost every strap can be adjusted to fit the user. Most of our hikes are seven miles or less but we are combing the hikes so I’m wearing the bag for hours. The trails have been up hill/downhill near vertical hikes to rock hopping and scrambling over rocky terrains and the bag has always stayed in place.

No need for a tube of foot cream or sunscreen, so I estimate what might be needed and pack that amount. As you can see from the photo, I still had foot cream, sunscreen, first aid cream, and Dawn Soap at the end of eight days. The floss is for size reference, but I’m looking for smaller floss containers. I despise plastic floss picks when I see them in the woods. Whatever you use should be placed in your trash bag and carried out. I use an empty coffee bag for trash because it’s light and can be folded down to the size needed.

For day hikes this is just as good as (and lighter than) my Osprey Daylite that retails for almost four times more. Ultimately, the good design for this product was that it was sized right for what I needed, both in dimensions and weight. Not too small, but not too large (and ozark trail canopy thus wasteful) – a Goldilocks design. After all, I had to be sensitive to weight as we were required to carry our own water for 10 miles as there were no options for filtering during that stretch. It was heavier than the premium brands but still light enough for our needs.

All though I’ve been hiking for years, my hikes have been short ones no more than a mile or two. Normally they took place at a green space or a nearby park. For these outings it was carrying a Nalgene bottle of water in a pocket or on a strap and large jug kept in the car for the drive home. But over the last few years my wife and I are into longer hikes. We hike anywhere from 3 to 4 miles at a time up to 7 miles with a goal of a 10-mile round trip day hike.

Fast and easy to adjust and all buckles and webbing are in good quality. A couple of elements make it standout from a regular shelter, like the upper vents in the roof and the upgraded all-steel ozark trail backpack structure. The buyer is responsible for paying sales tax on titled vehicles at the state DMV. Keep up on innovative new product and our always evolving features and technology.

Determining when and where water will be available is part of route planning. Monitoring rain in the area you’re going to hike and contacting locals can help you determine if smaller creeks might act as water sources. Last fall when hiking dry sections of the Ouachita Trail, we planted water caches for insurance, but this involved driving to pick up empty jugs after the trip. Having a separate rain fly for a 2- or 3- person tent makes sense because multiple people can split up the weight a little easier on longer hikes. With a 1-person tent, that doesn’t really make as much sense. After all, I was carrying the whole thing and so it might as well be connected.

I used the word “think” intentionally, because what I thought I knew about Ozark Trail was not correct. Ozark Trail is proving to be a really solid competitor for outdoor products. This cooler has a number of features that you would find on more expensive coolers and a few that you won’t find. I avoid freeze dried meals because of their saltiness, expense, and packaging.
