The Best Electric Bikes

Despite what you might expect, this e-bike cruiser actually has great performance capabilities, including a 45-mile range powered by a 313 Wh battery that is more powerful than the Marshall’s. From the Coston DX to the Schwinn Mendocino, the Schwinn electric bike line-up covers anything from on-road to off-road, from a casual cruise to running errands with the kids. Schwinn are now in their second generation of ebikes with the Marshall, Coston CE and DX. Without knobby tires, the Marshall isn’t going too far into mud or snow, but it is great for easier trails and dirt roads. My testing has been done on gravel roads and wet, muddy trails at around 5° C with a bit of snow on the ground. I like how the Marshall is a bit more upright than a standard mountain bike but in a better position for standing than a cruiser.

Schwinn has a long and storied history of making the best bikes on the planet specifically for younger riders. That youth-first attitude is fully embraced in our e-bike offerings as well. Schwinn e-bikes are also available through Dick’s Sporting Goods, where select models are available for an in-store test ride.

Seeing as the only opportunity for a test ride within 100 miles was only 5 miles away, I dropped in for a visit. Unfortunately, Schwinn doesn’t outfit the Monroe 250 with any accessories you’d typically want for commuting, such as fenders or racks. To be fair, not many competing e-bikes tend to come with these extras anyway, so with its comparatively low price, you’ll have extra money to pick out the accessories you want. When buying a bike, it’s important the one you purchase fits you correctly. Making sure this is the case might mean visiting a local bike shop that carries it and either giving it a test ride or just seeing which size is right for your height.

Whether you’re commuting, exploring new trails, tooling around town, or all of the above, a sport hybrid e-bike can handle it all. Schwinn e-bikes deliver the same great riding experience with the addition of pedal assist motors and rechargeable batteries that let you roam farther than ever before. In 1995, Giant designed the first road bicycle with a sloping top tube featuring a smaller rear triangle.

The front suspension mellows out the bumps but the 700c wheels and 32 tyres roll efficiently, so it’s good for distance. Best ridden on paved surfaces or light offroad like gravel or rail trails. This would be a fine choice for younger or beginner e-bike riders thanks to its excellent lighting and comfortable layout — if, that is, its price were a few hundred dollars lower.

All in all, this bike offers good performance and quality for its price. We’re going to tell you all the similarities and differences between the four Schwinn e-bikes, so stay tuned. Specific add-ons like fenders, a rear rack, and a cushioned seat make Schwinn e-bikes some of the most comfortable electric bikes on the market. You’ll need to consider the type of terrain and style of riding you prefer, as well as how far you want to ride before recharging the battery. For example the Healy Ridge and Ridgewood e-bikes are great for trails and other off-road rides, whereas the Mendocino is perfect for casual cruising around the neighborhood.

I’d like to see an ebike have a powered tail light so I don’t have to remember to test the batteries. I’m assuming with the design it’s tough to power anything on the back without a rack. The riding position schwinn ebike is comfortably upright but still able to lean into things off-road. It still lets you stand if you’re trying to get up a particularly steep part of a hill or over a rough section on the trail.

The control panel design used on this electric is incredibly simple and streamlined. Once the battery pack has been filled and properly mounted to the frame, you just hold the power button on the control pad near the left grip, and it blinks to life with a little dance of lights. There are two menus here, the left chart shows five dots that indicate 0-5 level of pedal assist. The higher you go, the zippier and faster the motor will spin but it will also draw more power, depleting your battery more quickly. The second chart is a battery level indicator showing five dots, each representing a 20% drop.
