Schwinn offers a limited lifetime warranty for the frames of all its electric bicycles. If any problems occur to your e-bike’s frame because of a defect in the manufacturing of said frame, then Schwinn will replace it entirely for you. However, you will need to return the frame to Schwinn at your own expense.

So to offer a full-size electric bike with otherwise nice commuter features yet with such a small battery is a bit surprising. With just schwinn dealers 288 Wh of capacity, the battery surprised me, and not in a good way. Sure, I’ve seen plenty of e-bikes with 288 Wh batteries before.

In 1967, the company changed its name to Schwinn Bicycle Company. The manufacturer went through many ups and downs throughout the following years, usually coinciding with different bicycle booms in the United States. Unfortunately, labor problems and rising costs of production led to the company filing for bankruptcy in 2001. The biggest difference between the Coston CE and the Marshall are the lights, fork, and accessories. The Schwinn Marshall is a step-through and standover hybrid designed for commuting and light adventuring.
It’s easy to see the affordable quality when you see a Schwinn. The 250 watt motor could be bigger for this bike to use the throttle regularly and give a better boost on hills. It’s still lower than many mountain bikes making it easier to get on and off, especially on awkward spots on the trail. I like how the Marshall is a bit more upright than a standard mountain bike but in a better position for standing than a cruiser. Turning takes a little bit to get used to as it is a little more top-heavy than a regular bike with the battery.
I didn’t have the opportunity to try out the Monroe before it arrived, so I went on faith. I was also sent the medium frame version, which turned out to be slightly small for me but fortunately, the build ended up being just right for how I like to ride. I’ve put bicycles together on my own in the past and tend to be good at putting the bigger pieces together correctly like the handlebars, wheels, pedals, and so on. The part I have the most trouble with is the fine-tuning, which is one of the most important aspects of the set-up process. Schwinn includes a battery charger with the bike, which plugs into any standard wall outlet you’d have in your home, apartment, or office. To take the battery out of the bike, use the included key to release it, then plug the charger into the battery and then into the wall.
It’s just that they’re usually on smaller, lightweight e-bikes that push the needle considerably less on the scale. That being said, the small-ish 250W motor isn’t going to be a powerhouse on hills. The bike accelerates fine on flat ground, but you’ll definitely need to add some leg assist if you’re going to be climbing tall hills. The Schwinn Coston CE is very much a commuter electric bike, but it’s not one of those thin-wheeled messenger e-bikes. In general, if purchased on the Schwinn website, your new bike will be shipped within hours of being ordered and should arrive within 7-10 days.
Overall, I think Schwinn needs to better balance its approach when it comes to the motor and how hard it pushes, especially when it has a full charge. A 7-speed transmission from Microshift also adds to the commuter street-cred, giving those in hilly areas the ability to run through the gears on hills. It looks just odd enough for drivers to take a second look in a “what the heck is that thing?
