The sun shield was a success considering the $50 price point. For a 10-person tent, I would expect the tent to have at least 2 doors, 1 on each opposite wall of the tent, and both my WeatherMaster 10-Person Tent and my Coleman 10-Person Instant Tent have 2 doors each. So, without tons of additional waterproofing, Ozark Trail tents are definitely not meant for rainy weather of any kind, even in light rain.
I do like the tent, lots of space, easy to put up, but a couple of things I didn’t like, the front door zippers always get stuck on the little rain flap that covers the zipper. I sprayed the tent with camp dry because I knew it was going to rain the next day. I would love to have a tent with sturdy metal poles, but nobody seems to make a reasonably priced tent with sturdy poles any more. Oddly enough, Ozark Trail’s most basic, base bones shelter takes the title of most durable. We chose the Ozark Trail Clip & Camp because unlike larger cabins with plastic hubs and countless poles, this traditional two-pole dome has the fewest number of parts that can potentially fail. When you’re looking at what you want in a tent, consider how many people are going to be using it.
These are simple fast steps that can be done super quick during set up. I purchased this tent at a local Wal-mart prior to going on a dirt biking trip with friends in March. For those who don’t know, March in Colorado means sudden snowstorms and REALLY cold nights in the mountains (even though the days are warm). You unfold all the poles and make sure to extend them out. Extending them was the part that took us a bit to figure out.
In the morning we woke up to a STILL warm tent (grill still running of course) and 20 inches of snow on the ground and about 10 inches still on the tent. I’ve had great luck with the Ozark chairs, sleeping pads, and other basic camping items. These products are overpriced at name brand stores like REI. You are buying the idea of being some cool, unique, outdoor person. The type of guy that would list hiking as a hobby on his dating profile. This would be great for anyone that plans to sit down in the shelter.
