Owner of Gazelle bikes buys Cannondale, Schwinn for $810 million

I’m talking Twin Peaks in San Francisco and riding the rim of Lake Tahoe. It has a nice twist throttle to make starts easy and variable schwinn beach cruiser power settings so it isn’t always all power all the time. On flat terrain it isn’t necessary to use power as it has a 7 speed Shimano.

Down from $1,899, today’s offer arrives with $400 in savings attached on an all-new electric ride. It’s of course the first discount since launching today, and a new all-time low. The Paramount was developed for track and road racing by Emil Wastyn, a 6 day racing frame builder, mechanic and Schwinn dealer in Chicago, who immigrated from Belgium.

And with a second battery it still would cost less than any other e-bike with comparable components. I also have an Ecotric Beach and Snow e-bike which I purchased years ago before there was the Seagull. It has been great but it isn’t the best for the steep hills of San Francisco. Especially, now that I’m over 65, the extra boost from the Seagull’s 1000 Watt motor makes it fun to ride again.

That represents a miniscule fraction of the estimated 13

million adult bicycles sold in the country each year. Schwinn is one of the oldest and best-known cycle brands in the United States, making an array of bikes including notably “beach cruisers”. Mongoose is known for BMX and dirt bikes, while Cannondale makes high-end road bikes. This was a no-expense-spared project of Frank W. Schwinn, who wanted the bike to be introduced in 1938.

The head tubes look as if they were fillet brazed, but they weren’t. The head tube and the tapered segments that lead into the the top tube and down tube were actually made from two special forgings that were “electro-forged” (welded) together down the centerline, then ground smooth, so the seam is not usually visible. There are necked-down parts that fit into the top tube and down tube, like internal lugs.

In the late 1960s, the Varsity and Continental pioneered the use of auxiliary brake levers, which allowed the rider to rest hands on the straight, horizontal center section of the ram’s horn handlebars, yet still have braking control. This feature, attractive to schwinn dealers older riders, soon found its way to other Schwinn models, especially those intended for senior citizens. Ignaz Schwinn was born in Hardheim, Baden, Germany, in 1860 and worked on two-wheeled ancestors of the modern bicycle that appeared in 19th century Europe.
