Coleman 8 Person Instant Camping Tent 14 x 10 Express Setup

Rain still seeped though ALL four walls of the tent (see pictures) and made puddles on the floor, getting our sleeping bags and other gear wet throughout the night. I agree with the last reviewer…tent looks good, setup is really nice, but the plastic corner brackets break way too easy, metal ones and this tent would be awesome. I like the weatherctec system, on most Coleman tents seems they stay dry even in heavy rains. The aluminum poles are also quite durable; the leg poles are 16mm thick, while the roof poles are 12mm thick.

All in all, there are many great points in its design but there are also downsides, so choose carefully. Check also their 10-person version with dark rest design. The nearly vertical walls and its height of nearly two meters are the features which make it a cabin type tent. Please see more about the terminology in my separate text. All of these heavy-duty materials add a great deal to the weight—at nearly 25lb, this is the heaviest tent in our 2021 review. However, this was not a bother to us, as this tent really only needs to be transported from the car to the impact pad, and we’d rather heft a few extra pounds than sacrifice durability. There’s no included footprint with this tent, and we’d recommend purchasing either a 9’x9’ or 10’x10’ footprint, which unfortunately is not offered by Coleman. You can also save quite a bit of money by opting for a tarp instead. These will run you anywhere from $10-20, depending upon your desired level of quality. The Instant Tent 6 is also lacking a couple of other features that would help it compete with several similar tents.

This is a nice feature here; you have a divider that offers some privacy. The divider is with a central zipper, and you can roll it up and fix on the ceiling when you do not need it; you can do this with each of its two wings separately. It attaches to the side walls through some toggles and loops.

Campers seem to purchase it uniquely for its extremely fast setup and breakdown time “under 30 seconds” the smaller Pop Up 2 is ideal for a solo camper, it is a tad small for two. As the Pop Up 4 is only an extra few dollars it would be a great choice for a couple. In a recent article, I talked about how to select the right tent for your family. I offered some tips and gave you some questions to consider when choosing a tent for your family. Today I’m reviewing the Coleman 8 person Signal Mountain Instant Tent.

I’ve since set it up at home for careful inspection before camping again and noticed zipper teeth were misaligned, stitching was uneven in places, and stitching thread was totally loose in other places. It really seems like the tent is not waterproofed at all from the factory. Some smaller cons are that the room divider is quite see-through, with pretty big gaps at the sides, and the only 2 pockets in the tent are ridiculously tiny. Also, even if you’re not tall like me (I’m 5’3″), you should be able to set it up on your own. I tried for many hours to fix this issue, but the pole just wouldn’t budge, even though I tried to unscrew it and tried to loosen it up by oiling it and stuff like that. So, that was a bit disappointing, but I guess manufacturing defects do happen, so this is probably just a one-off thing.

Also, there’s 1 e-port at the bottom of the tent with a zippered closure. There’s 1 lantern loop in the tent, at the very top of the tent, right in the center, coleman screen tent for some lighting at night. There are 2 pockets in the entire tent, both measuring about 7 by 8 inches, which is really tiny for such a large tent.

I own a somewhat embarrassingly large collection of tents for camping—some from my backpacking days, while some are from when I switched to family car camping. However, I wouldn’t say that Coleman has the best instant tent mechanism, at least for this tent. Sometimes, one of the elbow joints of the poles would jam and won’t prop up properly, and I’d have to fold it back up and try to prop it back up again. After about 3 hours of light rain, I noticed that no water seeped through the bathtub flooring, and it was still dry, which was great.
