Before starting, ensure that all guy lines and stakes are removed. Begin by collapsing the poles starting from the center, gently pushing each coleman instant tent section downwards. Take care to neatly fold the tent fabric, avoiding any sharp twists or bends, to prevent tears and maintain its longevity.
I know for sure that I would not go to the Alps without a fly, we have a lot of rain there and it can last for hours. This tent is a single-layer type and this is the only similarity with winter tents which are usually (but not always) single-layer structures. But do not even think of using this tent in a winter environment; this is a tool coleman screen tent for very mild weather conditions and for summer mainly. This tent is quite heavy, you have 36.3 lb (16.5 kg) here. The packed size is not so impressive either, you have a carry bag which is roughly 47 x 10 inches (120 x 25 cm). So, you will need a car or any other means of transport, and the tent can be used at places with a car access.
There is plenty of space around under the windows so they missed the opportunity to make this tent far more livable. As you know, when you are in rush you sometimes do not pack the tent to the smallest volume, so getting it back to the bag can be annoying. The meaning of this is that on the bottom you have a tear-away strip, and underneath it, you have a gusseted part, a sort of baffle that expands the bag. The bag is nicely done in general, with two carry straps and a zipper it looks like a travel bag.
The Cabin is the perfect kids’ tent, parent tent, or gear tent, but you only get to choose one. At 56 sq ft, you can fit two twin air mattresses with about a foot of hallway left or fill the entire tent wall to wall with a full and a twin. The Cabin wasn’t built for four, but you could make it work in a pinch. The door only opens halfway, a disappointing feature found in other Coleman tents. With 3 children, we like to spread out and store our gear inside the tent to protect it from the weather and little critters that may get curious. Poles are integrated into the tent so there are no poles to snap together, insert, etc, etc.
The first day I set the tent up the wind blew it over while I was setting it up, 3 “Knuckle” joints broke instantly, they are a part of the tent poles that allow the tent to “pop up”. This was not a strong wind, more like a gust in a breeze and should not have injured the tent at all. During the course of camping all 6 of these joints broke and I used duct tape to hold the poles together (which was far superior to the cheap brittle plastic joints that came with the tent). The Cabin will fair well in both warm and cold weather[. The single walls are seam-sealed and have good coverage all the way around. The tub-style floor and tent walls are made of thick 150D polyester.
The windows are a truly great feature, but they are the places where you might expect water passing through the vertical zippers sections. This is again something very useful; so you have two doors with different designs, one is with an inverted T-shape zipper and the other is like a D-shape. Both are with panels and mesh, so you can have windows on the doors as well. This is a bit disappointing part, there are only 2 small mesh pockets for storage.
So, if you have this tent, I recommend putting the zippers higher up where it’s more protected by the rainfly, instead of lower down, where water can seep in. Even in light rain, majority of the mesh will get wet, as you can see in the picture above. I could crack the windows open a tiny bit in light rain, but in heavier coleman sundome rain, it’s best not to. Apart from the roof, this Coleman 10-Person Tent has 5 windows and 2 doors, almost all of which are pretty massive, allowing for plenty of ventilation when it’s not raining. The back door measures about 47 by 46 inches in dimensions, and it’s about 53 inches from the floor to the top of the door.
