Igloos Trailmate Expands Into a Hardside Cooler Series Outdoor Retailer’s The Daily

Every day during our test, the lid temperature of the Trailmate was 100°+. To be fair, the cooler was filled to capacity with ice, as we do with all of our ice retention tests. However, 4 days should be easily attained with a decent amount of ice used. For what it’s worth, this was one of our “fan favorites” among friends and family while we were conducting an ice retention test which included 25 different coolers. A quick look at the Igloo Trailmate will reveal its’ unique stance. This is not a run of the mill budget cooler yet not a roto molded cooler, it falls somewhere in between.

As we mentioned in the opening, we feel the Trailmate is the best bang for the buck when it comes to wheeled coolers. This cooler others impressive ice retention, more features than most competitors, yet doesn’t break the bank. Prices are constantly fluctuating, but normally the Trailmate can be picked up for under $250. Some may find this price point to be steep, but a comparison of a similar sized roto molded cooler will reveal the value.

Today, Igloo revealed the brand-new, expanded Trailmate Series of high-performance hardside coolers at Outdoor Retailer Summer trade show. The all-new series — featuring the Trailmate 25 Qt Cooler and Trailmate 50 Qt Cooler — is available now at igloocoolers.com/trailmate. First, you have the butler tray that is built into the inside of the lid.

Our least favorite aspect in terms of usability is the drain found in this cooler. Though it has a wide channel to help empty it of meltwater, the inside of the drain also is turned into a protruding tunnel into the interior by a white plastic tube. Why this is a thing, we’re not sure, as it made the Trailmate the least conducive to emptying via drain plug of any model we tested. It is worth mentioning, however, that some users noted concerns about the Trailmate’s durability. If you plan on subjecting it to extreme conditions such as rolling it down a mountainside, you may find it lacking in sturdiness.

Overall, it tackled the trail, even fully loaded with ice and beer, in remarkable fashion. The same mounting bracket that is used for the removable rod holders can be used with removable Igloo cup holders. Needless to say this is the perfect cooler for a beach day or surf fishing. This article will help you select a cooler that is best for you. All in all, it remains a purely personal choice how you’re willing to use the Trailmate and where. I’m aware that this part had gone for longer than you might have anticipated but can you really blame us?

igloo soft coolerA common complaint that people have when it comes to these large coolers is their lack of mobility. Igloo has found a way to solve that issue in addition to offering up a lot of really cooler other features. The ice life and build quality are at acceptable levels and the styling is really sweet.

The wheels, which are essential to the operation of these coolers, are made of tough plastic so you don’t have to worry about them popping. The core metal parts of these coolers are made of marine-grade strength aluminum. This material provides very good strength and is rust-resistant while still managing to stay relatively lightweight. As for the hardware, it is made of stainless steel which is also rust-resistant and extremely tough.
