Given that the previous Prevail was the US brand’s most heavily vented lid, it was quite the challenge. However, after riding the helmet, we believe that Specialized has succeeded. Its large air ports mean that it also doesn’t take the usual guise of an aero helmet, which tend to have a more solid appearance.
On test, we found that the Sintesi provided good airflow and kept our head cool, although the 13 vents don’t offer anywhere to perch a pair of glasses. The XR uses Bell’s Float Fit system, that’s simple to use and is paired with a comfortable strap and magnetic buckle. Combined they allow for a stable genesis mountain bike fit that adds to the helmet’s high level of comfort – the great ventilation and Iconic+ padding alone make it plenty comfy. The lightweight helmet uses the same Spherical MIPS protection as the Giro Aether, which isn’t the only way this lower price offering challenges its more expensive sibling.
The frame is equipped with a MINO Link, allowing you to alter rear suspension geometry. Additionally, despite shipping with 29-inch front and rear wheels, you can swap out the back wheel for a 27.5-inch wheel to get some added nimbleness at the back. Lastly, Trek’s ABP suspension design is composed of a concentric rear pivot, allowing full suspension actuation under braking. In collaboration with the genesis mountain bike Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we have rated bike helmets using the STAR evaluation system. Our impact tests evaluate a helmet’s ability to reduce linear acceleration and rotational velocity of the head resulting from a range of head impacts a cyclist might experience. Helmets with more stars provide a reduction in concussion risk for these impacts compared to helmets with less stars.
Other bikes might have the specificity to perform better in a single one of these uses, but very few bikes would be able to… genesis bicycles The model number can be found on the lower portion of the seat tube just above the crank on a black and silver decal.
It is a little heavy to carry up stairs but other than that its a great looking and handeling bike. The greatest restriction on how fast you can go when pinning singletrack is the tyres, yes they are fast rolling but they lack bite, something with greater cornering grip would certainly show off bikes handling better. Set up was simple, the bike did come with a whole bunch of spacers below the stem, after less than 30 seconds on the bike I had these shuffled to get the front as low as possible and it was off to the trails.
In contrast to the earlier bike though, it offers 7 speeds, with 1 on the front and 7 on the rear. I’m honestly not sure if it was just my bike, or if all of these bikes are that way, but it gave just enough, but not too much suspension in the rear. I must say, a lot of people don’t like low end bicycles with a full suspension, as supposedly the rear shocks tend to bounce and it makes for a pogo stick affect. The Vapour is Genesis’ CX race machine and there are three models available (10, 20 and 30).
