The Day One is still made by Genesis as a daily urban racing bike for enthusiasts of tradition. It’s now available in a steel version with extra city comforts. Since 2013, Genesis has been the bike manufacturer and main sponsor of the Madison Genesis bike racing team, which has grown from strength to strength, creating some of the UK’s most popular bikes for all occasions. The geometry is more aggressive than the endurance-oriented Equilibrium, but not quite as ‘head-down bum-up’ as the dedicated racers that are the Zeros. From a bike of this range, the models are very satisfactory.
Ostensibly, this is a more budget-oriented version of the Vapour Carbon. The aluminium frame is cheaper, although the fork is still carbon. Disc brakes remain present, but they have been changed to mechanical rather than hydraulic.
The Vapour is Genesis’ CX race machine and there are three models available (10, 20 and 30). There’s the option of having a full carbon frame at the higher end of the spec too, or a more affordable version with an aluminium frame and carbon fork. The Equilibrium and Equilibrium Disc are also endurance/sportive-focused bikes, and come with a steel frame and carbon fork. The steel makes for a super comfortable ride, while the carbon reduces some of the weight. Giant is the largest manufacturer of quality bicycles in the world.
These steel-tube endurance bikes are perfect for long highway rides because they reduce road noise. These frames can accommodate panniers and mudguards, increasing their versatility. The exterior cable routing and threaded bottom brackets will please mechanics. Almost the antithesis of the Day One, the Flyer is sublime in its simplicity.
About three years ago, they brought in e-bikes, which added a new avenue of bicycle access for someone who might need a pedal assist from an electric motor.
