The only ding on the windows is that they have no ties or way to secure them once opened, so they are left to simply dangle. Although some tents promise to hold up to 12 people, things can get a little cramped when you have all the sleeping bags fully rolled out. Measurements will matter more than how the tent is advertised, so use a measuring tape to map it out and decide on the size that will accommodate sleeping arrangements.

When we tested this 4-person tent, my son and I arrived at an unfamiliar campground, after dark. A nearby family spent over 40 minutes pitching their standard tent, which they had used many times prior. It took me under 5 minutes to have this tent set up and our sleeping bags rolled out. I expected this tent to be easy to set up, but I had no idea it’d be quite this easy.

Although this is a good tent for warm weather camping, it’ll be no good for rainy weather. Thankfully, like all good Coleman tents, there’s a storage pocket to suit your needs. The tent fits two queen mattresses, coleman sundome letting the kids take one and the parents take the other. Or if you’re with friends, you can sleep two adults to a mattress with relative comfort, so long as the friends are willing to share.

This tent blocks out 90% of the sun’s rays, making it easy to take a midday nap or enjoy some shade when spending the day on the beach. The instant setup feature is of a particular importance when you are in rush, for example when you are setting the tent up in rain. In such situations, you can still set this tent up without its interior becoming wet. If you have ever done this when it is raining, you will know what I am talking about.

You do not need an extra fly, but it may be a good idea to buy one for extra protection. But this is a design with huge windows, for comfort in normal summer situations. So the rain fly which you can order separately here, is minimal by the design, and it covers only the roof, see the picture. The aluminum poles are also quite durable; the leg poles are 16mm thick, while the roof poles are 12mm thick.
